Gokarna Tour Packages
from Bangalore

Gokarna sits on Karnataka's coast where the Western Ghats meet the Arabian Sea — five beaches, a centuries-old Shiva temple, and a laid-back, cliffside-trekking, cafe-hopping pace that's pulled it out of Goa's shadow and into a category of its own.

Why Gokarna, and why now

Gokarna does two things well at once: it's a serious pilgrimage town, home to the Sri Mahabaleshwara Temple and its Atmalinga, one of Karnataka's most visited Shiva shrines — and it's a genuinely good beach destination, with a string of five beaches connected by a coastal trekking trail.

That combination, plus fewer crowds and a more unspoiled coastline than Goa, is why it's become the default "next Goa" for travellers looking for something quieter. You can do it as a long weekend or stretch it into a proper 4-5 day coastal-and-forest trip by pairing it with Dandeli or Murudeshwar.

How to reach Gokarna from Bangalore

Most of our travellers drive or take an overnight sleeper bus — both cover the ~480–500 km route in 9 to 10.5 hours. Train access is limited (Gokarna Road station sees only a couple of weekly services from Bangalore), so it's rarely the fastest option. Flying and driving the last stretch from Goa's Dabolim airport is the quickest route if you're short on time, at roughly 4–5 hours door to door.

We break down the full pros, cons and costs of each option — including which route to take if you want to stop at Chitradurga Fort or Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary on the way — in our full guide on how to reach Gokarna from Bangalore.

Best time to visit Gokarna

October to March is peak season — the sea is calm, the weather is warm but manageable, and every beach and homestay is open. April and May turn hot and humid before the monsoon. June to September brings heavy rain and rough surf, which closes most water activities, but it's also when the coastline turns dramatically green and the crowds disappear almost entirely — worth considering if you don't need a swim-in-the-sea trip.

Full breakdown of what to expect month by month is in our best time to visit Gokarna guide.

Gokarna's beaches — which one is for you

Gokarna's five beaches sit along a single coastal stretch, connected by a walkable (and popular) trekking trail. If you're trying to decide which one to base yourself at (or whether to hop between all five), our comparison guide breaks down the crowd levels, stays, and vibe of each.

Gokarna trip cost from Bangalore

Costs depend heavily on stay category (beach shack vs. resort), how you travel (bus vs. self-drive vs. cab), and season. As a rough starting point, budget travellers typically spend less per day on stays and food than those booking resort-category accommodation — the gap widens further in peak season (December–January).
